Ask Mike - Needing information about Chicago low income housing and Medicaid
Dear Mike,
I'm a 52-year-old woman on SSDI. I've lived in Atlanta, GA for only six months now, after living in my birthplace of St. Louis, MO for 52 years. I prefer Chicago, IL, and plan to relocate there within the next month. How can I get information about Chicago low-income housing and Medicaid PRIOR to moving there?
Thank you,
Moving and Medicaid
Dear Moving and Medicaid
Thanks for contacting me. You wrote that you would like to relocate from Atlanta to Chicago and would like to know how to get information on low income housing and Medicaid prior to moving.
Our website can provide just the contact information you need to pursue the information you want. Go to Medicaid Agency and click on "Illinois" on the map of the USA. Scroll all the way down to, "ILC Contact Information for Illinois" found under the heading "State Independent Living Council and Center for Independent Living". Access Living is the name of the CIL that serves the Chicago Metro area. There is also a CIL in Forest Park.
Use the Medicaid Agency website to search for the information you want. It appears to be pretty easy to navigate. You can also use the contact information to ask specific questions. Either of the CILs should be able to assist you with your housing search.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your move!
Mike Oxford
