They are a compilation of recently and currently funded research and demonstration projects to expand and improve the Personal Assistance Services workforce in the U.S.A. Workforce Development Projects in Personal Assistance Services

Projects were selected for inclusion if they had either an explicit focus on PAS workforce issues, or indicated a promising workforce component. To date, this report identifies projects either funded or recently funded by Better Jobs/Better Care (funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Atlantic Philanthropies), Cash & Counseling (funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation and Administration on Aging]), and the Real Choice System Change initiative (funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services [CMS] in DHHS). In addition, other projects were identified through the annual state direct-care workforce survey by the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute and UNC. In January 2005, this report also includes CMS' Demonstrations to Improve the Direct Service Community Workforce, and a public-private partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor and the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR).

The next edition of this report will include projects sponsored or affiliated with organized labor and other worker associations.
