Abstract

This manual is a resource on workplace PAS for PAS users, employers, and personal assistants. Individual chapters address the definition of workplace PAS, including the difference between job-related reasonable accommodations and assistance with personal care at the worksite; self-assessment for finding a suitable personal assistant; managing personal assistants; employer concerns about providing reasonable accommodations; how workplace personal assistants can work effectively; the relationship between workplace PAS and assistive technology; and using Social Security work incentive provisions to pay for PAS.

The manual was developed by T-TAP (Training and Technical Assistance for Providers), a federally-funded center that helps community rehabilitation centers use customized employment strategies to move workers with disabilities from sheltered employment and non-work services to competitive, non-segregated settings. Some of the chapters have been published as articles in various professional journals.
